Performance Systematix and Meyer Seals Announce
Collaboration in Europe
ITTERVOORT, Netherlands — October 7, 2009 — Alfelder Kunststoffwerke
Hermann Meyer GmbH (Meyer Seals) and Performance Systematix (PSI) today announced
the commencement of a strategic collaboration in marketing and selling vented liners
for packaging venting.
Packaging venting is achieved by integrating a micro-porous membrane in the package,
allowing an air exchange to equalize pressure differences, which may occur due to
off-gassing, oxygen scavenging or during hot filling or transportation. By integrating
a membrane in the foam or pulp liner disc or in the heat induction foil of a package,
a vent path is created circumferentially through the thread or through a small hole
in the closure.
The collaboration will result in the availability of a wide range of vented liner
configurations (roll, cut discs, or even pre-lined into the customer's closure),
customized for the needs of closure manufacturers, packaging distributors and manufacturers
/ fillers.
Alfelder Kunststoffwerke Hermann Meyer GmbH celebrated 125 successful years in the
market in 2004. Meyer Seals has been offering its range of foam liners, pulp liners
and heat induction foils throughout several industries, including industrial and
household chemicals, food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical products. The company has produced
sealing materials for packaging throughout these years and has constantly come up
with innovations which have raised their competitiveness and secured the future
of the business. Today Meyer Seals produces around 15 billion sealing inserts each
year for every branch of packaging industry around the world. "The growing
demand for packaging venting has driven us to search for a strong partner to collaboratively
address these issues with our current and future customers", says Peter Rothweiler,
Managing Director of Meyer Seals. "PSI's membrane integration technology was
proven to be fully compatible with our liner products, while their approach of developing
the venting solution to the customer's needs perfectly blends into our business
philosophy."
Performance Systematix has been developing and manufacturing packaging venting solutions
for over 25 years, with customers in Europe, the United States and in the rest of
the world. They have specialized in customized integration of venting membranes
in plastic packaging closure systems, like liner, induction foil, caps, etc. Glenn
Dunn, VP International Business Development at PSI: "We are convinced that
Meyer Seals well-respected position in the liner market will help us address the
significant problems with packaging bloating, leaking and paneling, that we are
faced with when in contact with chemicals manufacturers, fillers, packaging manufacturers,
etc. Through our role of solution developer we can analyze the problem, develop
the suitable venting method, select the venting material and integrate in the liner
that the customer has already been using in its package. Combining the supply chains
of two customer-focused companies like Meyer and Performance Systematix will assure
short lead times and a very affordable solution for the costly effects of bloating,
leakage and paneling."

Performance Systematix a key contributor to case study on off gassing, vented
liners, and tamper evident sealing.
http://www.packworld.com/casestudy-28983 Leaky and bloated containers get cut from
turf management product roster. Turf management specialist Floratine Products Group,
Inc., Collierville, TN, formulates and markets 48 liquid and six dry nutrient products
to promote grass growth, heat-stress tolerance, and endurance on high-traffic lawns,
golf courses, and other sports fields. The company operates two packaging lines
- one for 10-L PET jugs and one for one-gal PET jugs. The 63-mm copolymer threaded
screw caps are applied by hand-held pneumatic capping machinery.
While Floratine provides outstanding turf management products to U.S. and international
markets with diverse climates, the company wanted to improve its packaging to keep
pace with product quality. The products contain organic components that can cause
off-gassing. This off-gassing can make the containers bloat in warm temperatures
or contract in cooler temperatures. Jugs with leaks and other defects can result.
Floratine director of operations, Darryl King, recalls, Packaging became tedious.
We were tightening all the caps, using a hand-held pneumatic capper. If we didn’t
get the cap tightened just right, it resulted in a phone call from an unhappy customer
with a leaky or bloated jug. We knew it was time to call in the packaging experts
to resolve this dilemma.
The triple-threat packaging team they called in consisted of cap supplier TricorBraun,
cap liner supplier Performance Systematix, Inc., and sealing equipment supplier
Enercon Industries Corp. TricorBraun and Performance Systematix collaborated to
find the optimum cap and liner combination for Floratine’s products. And Enercon
offered an induction sealing system suited to the task. The new system became fully
operational at Floratine in May 2009. 8-in. hole allowing the container to vent.
The vented Circumvent foam liner and a vented Airfoil heat-induction seal provide
a tamper-evident and leak-proof seal that allows the product to breathe without
leaking. This three-component venting system enables the jugs to vent during transport
and after the heat-induction seal is removed by the end user. The jugs avoid leakage,
bloating, and collapsing problems.

PSI Introduces Only Vented Heat Induction Foil—ScentVent™
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – March 2009 – Performance Systematix Inc. (PSI)
is the only manufacturer to offer a vented heat induction foil.
ScentVent™ allows the scent of a product to escape, yet provides the
same leak-proof protection of standard heart induction liners.
It replaces traditional scratch-and-sniff cards or labels used to simulate the product’s
fragrance.
The vent repels liquids, prevents container distortion and leaking, and is compatible
with a broad range of chemicals. With a high liquid intrusion rating, package security
and integrity are maintained.
ScentVent can be installed into standard closures that range from 13 mm to 120 mm,
as well as into dispensing and child-resistant closures. Many options are available:
a variety of melt layers to accommodate different bottle substrates, tab features
and cut disc and roll stock in various liner widths and patterns.
